Kaiser Permanente SoCal 5K Recap

Saturday morning I ran in the Kaiser Permanente Southern California 5K in Irvine…

It was chilly out, but the course went through some of the nicest neighborhoods in Irvine, and it was just beautiful! Things were a bit disorganized in regards to lay out of the booths and starting line, but overall it was good enough for me to try to include in my race schedule again next year. My time = 3.10 miles in 38.34, still trying to improve my pace, but it is proving to be harder than I expected!

Hubby is still battling his awful cough, so he committed to walking the race. I am so proud of him. He rewarded himself afterwards with a cookie…or two…

That night hubby and I went to see the Monster Jam show at Angel Stadium. I’ve always had a fascination with Monster Trucks (don’t judge me) and been so curious about the shows…so Will treated me to the show and while it was FAREEZING outside, the show was great! It was like a whole new/odd/awesome/funny/cool world! I loved it. Now I can cross one off my bucket list ;)

Next time I will just make sure to dress Eskimo style!

Yesterday I ran 3 miles as well and tomorrow I will run 6, 4 on Thursday and 8 on Saturday. Time to push hard! The Surf City Half Marathon is only 3 weeks away, and while the holiday and my 2 week cold from hell, really derailed my training, I am focusing on using this race as a kick off, and will be happy to finish and get in the groove of things. Hopefully by my 2nd half of the year I can start to really see some progress in my time! Either way, I am so excited for this half, which will kick off my mission for the Beach Cities Medal:

Challenge Information

The Beach Cities Challenge is a race series that includes three Southern California marathons – the Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach, the Orange County Marathon, and the Long Beach International City Bank Marathon. Runners who complete any combination of half or full marathons in all three events consecutively will receive a special Beach Cities Challenge Medal.

Rules
Runners must complete any combination of full or half marathons in each of the three events in consecutive order, starting with any of the three events. For example, if a runner starts the series at The OC Marathon in 2012, s/he must complete Long Beach 2012 and Surf City 2013 to qualify for the reward.
